Rhizome’s staff and Board of Directors are delighted to announce that we will honor artist Rachel Rossin and Julie Martin, Director of Experiments in Art & Technology, at our 2022 Benefit Dinner, in partnership with Zora. The benefit—Rhizome’s first since early 2020—will be hosted at Bowery Terrace in lower Manhattan on Tuesday, May 31, 2022.

Julie Martin has been an instrumental figure throughout the development of Experiments in Art & Technology (E.A.T.), the organization founded in 1967 to champion collaborations between artists and engineers—and an important inspiration for Rhizome’s key platform for art-and-tech collaboration, Seven on Seven. Martin has worked tirelessly to champion and contextualize experimental artists’ practices, and to steward the legacy of E.A.T. itself.

Rachel Rossin is a painter and programmer whose work in a range of media offers deep and playful consideration of the materiality and embodied experience of virtual space. She works in close dialogue with her tools, which include physical materials as well as machine learning algorithms and VR headsets.

The joint honorees exemplify the best of two distinct moments in the trajectory of art’s engagement with technology. Where Martin and E.A.T. advocated on behalf of artists simply to gain access to computers and other high-tech tools, Rossin works intensively with increasingly complex systems, developing a sophisticated artistic language around them.

Limited tickets for this celebratory dinner can be purchased for $550 each. Tables are $4000 for a premium table of 8, or $6000 for a patron table of 12. The event will begin at 6:30 pm with cocktails, and seated dinner will be served at 7:30 pm. Tickets are largely tax-deductible, and a tax receipt will be provided.
