ENOC PEREZ: LIPSTICK
For more than 15 years, New York-based artist Enoc Perez has developed a painting practice that examines the aspirations of modernist architecture. This exhibition will present a new body of work comprising six paintings that refer to the Lipstick Building (1986), an elliptical office tower in Manhattan designed by architects Philip Johnson and John Burgee. In each work, Perez uses his characteristic style to explore the formal qualities of the Lipstick Building in a variety of palettes.
Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Enoc Perez lives in New York City and earned a BFA from Pratt Institute in 1990 and an MFA from Hunter College in 1992. His work has been exhibited widely at such venues as the Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami; Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; Corcoran Art Gallery, Washington, D.C.; and White Columns, New York, among other venues. Work by the artist is included in numerous private and public collections.
